Garrett Hedlund signs for “Tron”
A remake of Disney’s “Tron” is in the works, and they’ve signed a lead actor: Garrett Hedlund.
He’s had roles in “Troy,” “Friday Night Lights,” “Four Brothers,” and “Eragon,” and also starred opposite Lindsay Lohan, Jane Fonda and Felicity Huffman in “Georgia Rule.”
Remember the original “Tron,” the 1982 cult classic? It starred Bruce Boxleitner as a computer hacker who was abducted into a computer and forced to participate in gladiator-type games. His only chance of escape rested in a heroic security program.
Gee, I kind of feel like that pretty much every day – like I’ve been abducted by my computer and forced to live in its world. But hey, it pays the bills, so I can’t complain!
Hedlund is an interesting choice, because he’s been on the edge of hitting it big in the industry for a while. This movie could do the trick, because it has a huge fan base already built in, and they’ve got a $150 million budget, which I’m sure will include lots of cool special effects.
Jeff Bridges is reprising the role of Flynn – that’s cool! – who was a computer programmer but ended up as the CEO of a software corporation. Olivia Wilde and Beau Garrett have also been cast in the project, which was known as “Tron 2″ and “Tr2n” but is now going simply by “Tron” (thankfully).
