Up-and-comer Garrett Hedlund has landed the lead role in Disney’s upcoming sequel to the 1982 cult classic TRON, say the trades. The flick is being directed by Joseph Kosinski.

Hedlund will play a man who finds himself pulled into the world of a computer and retracing the steps of a character from the original movie named Kevin Flynn. Hedlund’s filmography includes Troy, Friday Night Lights, Eragon, Four Brothers and Death Sentence.

Jeff Bridges is reprising the role of Flynn, who was a computer programmer but ended up as the CEO of a software corporation. Olivia Wilde, Bruce Boxleitner and Beau Garrett are also starring in the film. Wilde recently talked about the project with Sci-Fi Wire here.

The project has been known as TR2N and Tron 2.0, but according to the trades Disney is simply calling the movie TRON. Which seems a bit odd seeing as this is a sequel and not a remake.

Sean Bailey is producing along with Steven Lisberger, who co-wrote and directed the original film, and Jeff Silver. The movie is eyeing a spring shoot.
