A remake of Disney’s “Tron” is in the works, and they’ve signed a lead actor: Garrett Hedlund.

He’s had roles in “Troy,” “Friday Night Lights,” “Four Brothers,” and “Eragon,” and also starred opposite Lindsay Lohan, Jane Fonda and Felicity Huffman in “Georgia Rule.”

There are a couple of new TRON updates. The sequel, due out in 2011, will reunite Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner nearly 30 years after the original, and will pair them with a trio of actors who weren’t even born when the first TRON was released.

We already knew that Olivia Wilde and Beau Garrett will be the eye candy, and now The Hollywood Reporter says that Garrett Hedlund will take over the lead role, playing “a man who finds himself pulled into the world of a computer and retracing the steps of a character from the original movie named Kevin Flynn.” Hedlund has appeared in Troy, Friday Night Lights, Four Brothers, and Death Sentence in recent years.

Tron 2.0 has a leading man! Yeah I know, I was hoping it’d be Boxleitner or Bridges too but let’s face it, they’re kind of old. They’ll be in the movie but HR says it’s a guy named Garrett Hedlund who will star.

Troy actor nabs lead role

Garrett Hedlund – still best known for Troy and Four Brothers – has landed the lead in Tron.The sequel –which has apparently ditched the awful Tr2n moniker – will see Hedlund’s character pulled into a computer and retracing the steps of Jeff Bridges’ Kevin Flynn.

Bridges is on board to play Flynn again, while Olivia Wilde and Beau Garrett recently won the two female lead roles.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hedlund beat the likes of Ryan Gosling (really? Gosling in a CG blockbuster?) Cloverfield’s Michael-Stahl David and current Captain Kirk Chris Pine to score the role.

Director Joseph Kosinski aims to start shooting in the spring.

Disney has finally announced the lead star for their upcoming Tron sequel. Garrett Hedlund, star of such films Friday Night Lights, Eragon, Georgia Rule, and Death Sentence, beat out Ryan Gosling, Chris Pine and Michael Stahl-David (Cloverfield) for the role.

Apparently Olivia Wilde didn’t have the only Tron 2.0 news to report today. 24-year-old actor Garrett Hedlund has been cast as the lead in the highly anticipated sequel. Hedlund landed the role over other more notable actors like Ryan Gosling, Chris Pine, and Cloverfield’s Michael Stahl-David (who really needs another lead role). Additionally, the Hollywood Reporter is claiming that the title is now officially just Tron, without any numbers. Lastly, while Hedlund’s character’s name wasn’t revealed, it seems we might finally have an idea of what the sequel will be about based on the character description they gave.

First (and most importantly for everyone who doesn’t hate life) Disney has abandoned the working titles “Tr2n” AND the ‘already claimed by a videogame’ title “Tron 2.0″. They are going to stick to the classic “Tron” (or “TRON”, if you like) for now.

Next, and of far less significance – “Tron” has found its leading man. And the guy who will get sucked into the big maze this time? One Garrett Hedlund. If, like me, you are responding to that name with a giant “Who??” let me fill you in…

Garrett Hedlund to star in Disney sequel

Disney has picked up-and-comer Garrett Hedlund to star in “Tron,” the studio’s sequel to the 1982 cult classic by the same name being directed by Joseph Kosinski.

Hedlund, who made his debut in 2004′s “Troy,” has until now acted in larger ensemble pieces. He was one of the football players in Peter Berg’s “Friday Night Lights,” one of the foursome in the ensemble thriller “Four Brothers,” a supporting player in the fantasy film “Eragon,” and he appeared opposite Lindsay Lohan, Jane Fonda and Felicity Huffman in “Georgia Rule.”
