REHAB AGREES WITH LINDSAY LOHAN. TWO WEEKS into her stay at Promises Treatment Center in Malihu, California, the actress is “doing really well,” a pal says of the star, who admitted herself into the facility on May 28 after crashing her Mercedes and getting cited for DUI. “She’s a bit lonely, hut hanging in. A couple of friends have been visiting.” (Plus, mom Dina stopped by June 8.) The actress spends the rest of her time reading, e-mailing and hitting the gym. “She is starting to feel stronger and better,” the source says. And while she’s made friends inside, “she’s pretty wary. Everyone could potentially be that person who wants to sell a story.” Meanwhile, those on the outside are rooting for her recovery. “I hope Lindsay s doing better. I hope for the best,” her dad, Michael, who’s on probation in New York and trying to arrange a visit, tells Us. “My kids are my first priority.”

Finally, newcomer Garrett Hedlund was cast as Harlan, the naive boy who doesn’t know what to make of Rachel and her charms. Hedlund hails from the region of the country where George Rule is set and could easily relate to the farm boy. Of his character’s growing relationship with Rachel, Hedlund comments: “It’s the red zone for Harlan…he can’t go there. He’s got a girl, and he’s about to be married. This is out-of-bounds territory.”

“Georgia Rule” actor holds his own with a payload of female star power.

With only five movies under his belt, Garrett Hedlund, 22, confesses that he’d like to be a household name — but not as an actor, the reason he’s here today. He plays Lindsay Lohan’s hunky love interest in the new movie “Georgia Rule.”
His dream involves music. “If there’s one thing I want to accomplish it’s to record a song with Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam,” Hedlund says, over a cup of black coffee at a cafe off Sunset Boulevard. “And the crowds would go wild. It’s my mom’s fault. She gave me a karaoke machine when I was in seventh grade.”

Although the Minnesota-bred, 6-foot-tall, blue-eyed blond already has inspired fan websites with names like Being Garrett Hedlund and Garrett Hedlund Addiction, he goes unrecognized during our interview. With a stack of books at his side, he looks like any other coffee lover, albeit a hunky Hollywood one.

Not that there’s anything lazy about him. In just three meteoric years, Hedlund has kept busy onscreen — from getting crushed on the football field (“Friday Night Lights”) to slaying dragons (“Eragon”) to dying twice in the midst of battle (“Troy,” “Four Brothers”). Still, none of those tasks was as daunting as his latest challenge: being seduced by Lohan in the season’s biggest estrogen-fest, “Georgia Rule.” “I said to the director, Garry [Marshall], at the beginning, ‘Look, I’ve done three films with a lot of guys,’ ” says Hedlund, who plays Harlan, a virginal ranch hand. ” ‘And now I finally get a chance to do a film with three beautiful women, and I gotta play a Mormon?!’ “

Ever since filming started last summer, production on the comedy-drama was plagued with controversy. Morgan Creek Productions CEO James G. Robinson released a letter to the media calling Lohan “irresponsible and unprofessional” and a “spoiled child” when she failed to show up on the set. And then there was the sex scene between the two young lovers that takes place on a dinghy, making this Lohan’s first starring vehicle to get an “R” rating.

As if this kind of steamy stuff isn’t difficult enough to simulate, Hedlund really had his work cut out for him when he discovered it wasn’t a closed set. “We were filming in a public park,” he says. “So the paparazzi were in the bushes snapping pictures of everything.”

Lohan calls Hedlund “a gentleman and a very sweet person,” but director Marshall sums it up a lot better: “I knew they’d be great together onscreen because they are total opposites. For Lindsay, it’s life in the fast lane. For Garrett, it’s not.”

He’s not just a hunk: Even with a short résumé — just five movies– Hedlund disappears into each role like a true chameleon character actor, from the tortured tailback in “Friday Night Lights” to a blood-lusting son of a dragon slayer in “Eragon.”

Biggest claim to fame: His debut role as the slain innocent Patroclus, cousin to Brad Pitt’s Achilles in the sword-and-sandals epic “Troy” (2004). “It was awesome,” he recalls. “It was my first movie, and it was a nine-month gig. Brad really took me under his wing. He’d give me great tidbits of advice like, ‘Be proud of the product no matter what it is.’ “

Next up: Hedlund plays his first bad guy, who stalks Kevin Bacon’s family, in Death Sentence, due in September. He’s virtually unrecognizable, heavyset with a shaved head and tattoos. Gaining weight was easy, he says. “We were filming in South Carolina. They’ve got a lot of good fried foods.”

Less than a month after coming out of rehab, actress Lindsay Lohan,
whose late-night partying with the likes of Paris Hilton fueled tabloid
headlines and who has been reported to have caused some trouble on the sets of
the film “Georgia Rule” by being late for shoots, hit the red carpet
regardless in New York City on Tuesday (May 8th) for the premiere of the film.
Lohan, 20, shot to stardom as a kid in Disney movies like “The
Parent Trap” and “Freaky Friday,” and as her fame grew, so did
persistent hounding from the paparazzi as the young actress was nearly weekly
caught out club hopping in Los Angeles.
In July last year, the producer of “Georgia Rule”, wrote a
letter to Lohan in which he called her behavior “discourteous,
irresponsible and unprofessional” because she was showing up late to the
movie’s set. Lohan portrays a head-strong, troubled young woman in the film.

When asked about the situation on the sets and all the brouhaha around
her being late for shoots, Lindsay replied that things might have been blown
out of proportion in the gossip mills.
“The thing was I was never really, I mean I knew I did something
wrong, that was obvious. I took care of that, that was me, I was nineteen
during filming, but it wasn’t like that on the set, they blow things out of
proportion and the work that we had in the movie, and all the craft that
everyone put into it, really showed through and that’s what’s important,”
said Lohan.
Lohan has said earlier in an interview with Allure magazine that she had
been a bit irresponsible at the time of filming “Georgia Rule”
because she was going through something then in her life.
According to Allure, at the time, she was ending the relationship with
then boyfriend Harry Morton, who is the son of Hard Rock Hotel & Casino
founder Peter Morton.
This past January, Lohan checked herself into a Los Angeles
rehabilitation clinic for one month.
Later, when asked by another reporter on the red carpet whether she
found facing the media at premieres like this a grueling task, Lohan replied
in the negative, saying that getting a chance to convey her real self to
people was important to her.
“No, no, I love it, this is what I do I am an entertainer, I like
it. I like talking to people so that people know that I’m a real person, and
I’m not some Hollywood change girl,” Lohan said.
Lohan also hugged her director in “Georgia Rule”, Garry
Marshall, on the red carpet. Lohan said that he was glad that he was able to
complete the film in proper time, and was excited that the film was finally
going to be in theaters.
When asked whether he might have any advice for Lohan, Marshall
answered, “Life is more important than showbusiness, it’s my advice. Have
a life and try to keep friends around that will help you have a life, and
she’s working on it. She’s going to do all right.”
Actor Garrett Hedlund, who plays Lohan’s love interest in the film, said
that he didn’t think it would be right to say that the atmosphere on the sets
of the film was difficult because of Lohan.
“I won’t say that, I know that in press everything really gets
blown out of proportion, I just know that I mean we got every one of our
scenes filmed. We went home at the end of the day complete and that’s
that,” said Hedlund.
Jane Fonda, who plays Lohan’s grandmother in “Georgia Rule”,
did not speak to Reuters on the red carpet but in an earlier interview done on
the sets of the film, with the in-house crews, she praised Lohan’s ability to
“access her emotions” as an actress.
“Georgia Rule”, which also stars actress Felicity Huffman, and
tells the story of a three different generations of women in one family and
the difficult but strong bond they share, opens in U.S. theaters on May 11th.
